als U hier bent aangekomen op zoek naar de Nederlandstalige website / Nederlandstalige publicaties van Shikanda Press (Haarlem NL), klik dan hier om verder te gaan Introduction: Shikanda Press (established 2004) is a non-profit publishing house aiming at the distribution of high-quality scholarly and literary work mainly from African and European contributing authors. The Shikanda business philosophy is that intellectual and artistic products should circulate freely and at the lowest possible cost, for which a globally free, open-access website is currently the best solution. However, for more than three millennia the physical book (on clay, papyrus, other leaves and tablets, parchment, wax, paper, cloth, etc.) has been the standard format of intellectual and artistic production and accountability. Therefore the texts we publish are also made available in printed form, priced in such a way that not only the cost of printing is covered but also the publisher's website, hosting, and other essential overhead costs, while a 10% author's royalty will contractually be paid out in case relatively large print-runs and sales figures are attained. Open-access online publication does not yield royalties to the author nor revenue for the publisher, but serves a much more important goal: it makes for worldwide circulation (readily picked up by Google, Google Scholar, and other major search machines) in an established publishing context whose intellectual / artistic credentials and high standards of contents are increasingly recognised. Contact: All queries may be directed to shikandapress@gmail.com . Shikanda works from the city of Haarlem, the publishing capital of the Netherlands, and allegedly one of the sites in Western Europe where printing with movable type was initiated towards the end of the Middle Ages (when, however, the Chinese had been printing for several centuries). Current Shikanda publications: the following series are currently published under the Shikanda imprint:
Ordering of Shikanda publications in printed form: We repeat: the text of all Shikanda publications can be freely accessed online world-wide. However, these publications are also made available in attractively printed form, and the above three websites each have their own facility for the ordering of printed versions. Anyway, the ordering process is simple:
Submission of manuscripts: Scholarly manuscripts for Quest or PIP-Tracs (do specify!) may be sent to The Editor, shikandapress@gmail.com . Such manuscripts are expected to be formatted in full compliance with the Quest's Directions for Contributors (click here). Literary MSS should be formatted in line with the literary texts already published by Shikanda . Copyright: Authors retain their copyright, yet submission of a text to Shikanda or any of its series automatically implies that, if accepted, the author tacitly cedes such use rights as enable Shikanda to publish the text both in electronic and in printed form. Normally the details of the relationship between Shikanda and its authors are defined in a short formal Agreement. Author's copies: Authors of the PIP-TraCS and of theliterary series will receive 8 copies free, and may buy any number of copies at a 30% discount. Quest policy is to provide each contributing author (above a minimum number of pages) with a free copy of the journal volume in which the contribution appears, and to offer a 30% discount for the purchase of further copies of the same volume. For collective volumes special arrangements may be made. The Shikanda logo: Shikanda is an African royal name, the publisher has extensive roots in Africa, many Shikanda publications are Africa-related, the Shikanda non-profit philosophy provides a radical alternative to established forms of power, exploitation and exclusion in the publishing field, and considering these various aspects a royal executioner's axe from Central Africa was chosen for a logo. |
